A surprise today ! and Im absolutely exhausted. but happy ! WG forecast 11kts mid afternoon so I took the toys to work. Went down to ynyslas at about 2.30 for the low tide and rigged the 12m Slingshot for the landboard - after a few minutes it was clear the kite had loads of power so nothing for it but had to go for my first session on the water... to cool down...

Needless to say... the water is a bit different to landboarding. All those ramps (waves) to fly off and crash through ! there was a lot of white water around and I didn't want to go too far out for fear of loosing the board if (when) getting dragged off the board. Took a while to get the hang of getting both feet in the straps with the board being grabbed by the surf, managing to do it first time by the end of the session. But I was pleased because I managed to get up on the board and "crash" my way out through the surf - probably trying to keep the speed down too much in reality by beating too hard without enough speed... Coming back in was in general better because it was more along the line of the surf and on a few occasions I got a smooth stretch of water and some speed - steering and edging the board then felt great. max run probably only about 10 secs but I'm happy for a first session. Managed to jibe a few times without loosing the board and one almost wthout falling back into the water. After 2-3 hours I got a real painful cramp in my lower leg.... Argggh....pain forced my to release the kite onto the leash line... followed by a few minutes recovering tidy up lines and the inevitable longish walk upwind along the beach. Don't think I've worked so hard in years !

Enough witterings that Im sure noone is in the slightest bit interested in so time for some food and perhaps a celebratory beer...
